January 12 - Tip Reporting Obligation -

Employees receiving tips exceeding $20 in December must report their earnings to their employer by January 12. Utilize IRS Form 4070 or an equivalent document that includes your signature, name, address, Social Security number, your employer’s name and address, coverage period, and the total tips received. Your employer is required to account for FICA and income tax withholdings from your regular wages. If these wages are not enough to cover the taxes, your employer will indicate the uncollected amount in box 8 of your W-2, which you will need to address when you file your tax return.
