March 2026 Tax Deadlines & Filing Reminders

With the April filing deadline effectively one month away, March is a critical pivot point for taxpayers. At MJ Ahmed CPA PLLC, we know that the difference between a stressful tax season and a smooth one often comes down to timing. Whether you are a service industry professional in the Dallas-Fort Worth area or an individual filer managing assets from abroad, staying cognizant of these dates is essential.

March 10: Tip Reporting for Employees

For those in the service sector, accurate reporting is vital to avoid compliance issues. If you received more than $20 in tips during February, you must report them to your employer by March 10. This is done using IRS Form 4070.

You may also use a personal statement, provided it includes:

  • Your signature, name, address, and Social Security number.
  • Your employer’s name and address.
  • The specific period covered and total tips received.

Your employer uses this data to withhold FICA and income taxes. If your base wages cannot cover the required withholding, the uncollected amount will appear in box 8 of your W-2, and you will need to settle that liability when filing your annual return.

March 16: The One-Month Warning

We are approximately 30 days out from the individual income tax deadline. If you have not yet scheduled your preparation appointment with MJ Ahmed CPA PLLC, we strongly advise doing so now.

Do not wait until your documentation is perfect. A common delay tactic is waiting for that "last missing receipt." It is far more efficient to meet with us now; we can identify gaps and create a precise checklist of outstanding items for you to forward later. This secures your place in the queue and prevents last-minute urgency.

A Note on Extensions

If your financial situation is complex—perhaps involving international assets or K-1 delays—an extension may be necessary. However, remember that an extension to file is not an extension to pay. We still recommend preparing a preliminary return to estimate your liability. Paying the projected tax now minimizes interest and penalty exposure.

Standard Filing Rules & Resources

As per standard IRS regulations, if a due date lands on a weekend or legal holiday, it moves to the next business day.

Disaster Area Relief
Deadlines are frequently adjusted for federally declared disaster areas. Given the unpredictability of weather events in Texas and across the U.S., we recommend verifying your status if you have been impacted by severe weather.
